The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time costume

So we were commissioned to make a hero costume, but instead of the Hero of Light (Twilight Princess) we were asked to make a Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time). While I do think that Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite Zelda games, A Link to the Past being the first, I feel that this outfit is definitely more of a costume, instead of garb. The best part about the realism of Twilight Princess was that it allowed me to make a great costume that could be worn at Renaissance Festivals. To those that know the games, it is Link. For those that don’t, it is a wood elf adventurer’s costume. Simple, but versatile. I probably will never need my own Ocarina costume for myself (since I couldn’t wear it at a Ren Faire), I still think it is an important part of the history that is Zelda, and a great costume for conventions.

We did decide to make a few changes to the costume though, since some things look better in reality. The leggings in the game are tights, since back then processors weren’t that powerful, and it meant they had to render less polygons. In all the concept art, it always seemed a bit off to me, so we made the pants a little more loose (this is an easy fix though for anyone wanting to be screen accurate).

The shirt is the exact same shirt as we offer with our Hero of Legend costume. The tunic and hat are made with a 100% cotton broadcloth, unlike my Twilight Princess tunic which is a velour. We altered the neckline, adding the lapel collar and removing the lacing along the collarbone.

If you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know. We make our costumes for our fans, and we want to know what people want and like. Thanks so much.
