About the Piece:

Mike and I were redesigning our bumper stickers, and I decided that it was time to use some photo references for my popular piece, Modern Magic. This version 2.0 debutted at Chattacon 2009, where Mike and I were the Artist Guests of Honor. The response to the updated version was quite positive, and so I have decided to make the transition on my website as well.

Seen the movie Wizards? You should, it is quite amusing and entertaining. At the time of drawing this, I had not seen the movie. This was a request from a friend while we played a session of D&D in college.

I had my sketch book out, and my friend asked, "Hey, can you draw a wizard with a six shooter?"

Confused, I looked at him and inquired, "Why would I draw a wizard with a gun?"

And without missing a beat, "Not just any gun, it has to be a six shooter," he responded.

At this point, I stopped asking, and simply did his request. And I am very glad that I did.

The original is in the collection of John Williams.

About the Artist:

Paul and his brother Michael opened Aradani Studios in 2002, selling both their artwork and costuming as they travelled all across the US. Paul’s medium of choice is charcoal, a passion he discovered in college. He loves the fluidity of it, the ease of moving it across the page with a simple gesture, and on the flipside, the challenge of it, such a simple gesture can also erase hours of painstaking detail. Paul’s work has won numerous awards around the country, including the prestigious Chesley Award in 2006, for Best Monochrome Unpublished for his piece Nightmare. He currently resides in Nashville, TN, where he, his brother, and sister continue to expand and build their elf ear empire. You can see his artwork at http://paulbielaczyc.com/
